Y., Aug. 15 -A crowd estimated at more than 200,000 poured into this Catskill Mountain hamlet today for a three-day rock and folk music festival, creating massive traffic jams and a potentially serious security problem. Well it was closer 500,000 and as I grew up just south of Bethel New York I was just a little young to remember being only nine at the time, but a do remember my older brother and sister being quite excited about what was happening. And how they were grounded for the weekend watching us…… it was the longest weekend of my life. My older brother just disappeared which didn't go so well with my sister who turned around and locked me and my younger brother in our bedroom. With a grin and look of just try to open that door we did not sitting in fear. We gazed out the window and watched the world go by. It was not a great weekend in that it was humid but it rained very hard which made it unbearable in our room.

Dozens of projects are planned to commemorate the August 1969 concert, including an Ang Lee movie called “Taking Woodstock,” a Heroes of Woodstock concert tour (with Jefferson Starship and Melanie) and at least 13 books, including one for children co-authored by a second cousin of Max Yasgur, the farmer who lent his land in Bethel, N.Y., for the original live show. Target is set to run a “Summer of Love” promotion featuring licensed Woodstock merchandise, like beach towels with the symbolic white dove perched on a guitar neck.
