Pretty please don't make me a baby boomer! I was born in 1940, the last year of the Great Depression. My mama always called me a "war baby" because Europe was already at war by then.
My generation was the last of the "age of innocence," and the boomers were the first of the "free love" generation.
True, there are only a few short years separating the two, but there is a huge chasm between the outlooks and experiences in the two.
I have memories of wartime, while those born in 1946 have memories only of peace or the Korean War.

I believe it refers to the soldiers returning home from Wars, post WWII and the Koren War. There were a bunch of babies born in those years. I arrived when my dad was in Korea

I think Boomer refers to the years following the War, the people in the armed forces were coming home and getting married, when there was a rise in the baby population, the economy was in the upswing. New housing was being built, to accomodate those new family's. I know I was born in "47, I will be "60" in 9 days.

Before 1946, age groups are not commonly accepted as Baby Boomers.
Baby Boomers is the age group that was a part of an usual spike in birth rates following and specifically pertaining to the end of WWII which was Sept. 1945.

I was born in 1943 and I am definitely not a boomer! Of course the advantage to this is that I get SS while there is still some money available! lol

No people born before 1946 are NOT baby boomers. Those born after the end of the war , and there's alot of us were what the boom was all about. Baby boomhood goes from 1946-52- 53-59 and 60-65 approximately.
If you talk to people in those segments that have a commone universal experienc in some ways but not in others. Those born before 53 found jobs easily, as the economy was booming , didn't have to endure 'new math' and different educational trends. Those in the middle group experienced at least two recessions, an overload of graduates in their educational field and not always having the best that their older siblings might have had. The younger boomers experienced the boom of the 80s and 90s and had a more similar experience to those born between 46 and 52.

In 2006, the oldest of the baby boomers, the generation born between 1946-1964, turned "60." So, I still maintain, I'm a "baby boomer."
