We’ve got a stretch of leisure time ahead of us uncharted by any previous generation and to survive it, rejoice in it, value it, is going to take some planning. Sure, we all talk about volunteering, taking classes, joining a social club but the trick is to actually do it; to really get out and create balance. Have you noticed at your local coffee shop the number of people who sip alone and contrast them with the groups of grey-haired ones who come in on bikes! What interests you? Birding? Check out your local Audubon. Walks; hiking? There must be a local group. What about a chapter of OLLI (Osher Life Long Learning Institute) for classes taught by peer group volunteers, often based on life experience and passion.
